Sinfónica de Minería Winds
Colorado Mountain College, Edwards Sinfónica de MineríaBravo! Vail’s 2025 season brings the delightful sounds of a woodwind quintet, and gems of music written for this colorful array of instruments. Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto hosts these free community events celebrating the glorious return of Mexico’s Sinfónica de Minería to the Valley.

Alethia Lozano
flute
Alethia Lozano has been a member of the Sinfónica de Mineria since 2011. She is principal flutist with UNAM Philharmonic and the Sinfónica de Mineria. She has been a soloist with numerous Mexican orchestras and has taught at the Faculty of Music of UNAM and at the Higher School of Music of the National Institute of Fine Arts.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree with highest honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Gold Medal with Unanimous Distinction at the Higher Level, and a First Prize of Excellence with Unanimous Distinction and Jury's Congratulations from the National School of Music of Ville d'Avray, France.
Lozano is a recording artist for independent labels, audiovisual projects, television, and streaming, as well as collaborators on multidisciplinary projects for institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) and the Whitney Museum of Contemporary Art in New York.
Clair Kostic

Born on Long Island, New York, Claire Kostic is the principal oboe of Sinfónica de Minería, a position she has held since the summer of 2019. With Minería, she toured the United States from coast to coast, bringing the orchestra’s dynamic repertoire to audiences across the country. This summer, she returns to Bravo! Vail for the second time.
She also serves as principal oboe of the Winston-Salem Symphony and has performed with major orchestras such as the Houston Grand Opera, The Florida Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Fort Worth Symphony. A dedicated chamber musician, she was a member of Houston’s Monarch Chamber Players.
Hector Noriega

Hector Noriega joined the Sinfónica de Minería in 2023 as the principal clarinetist. He has appeared as guest principal clarinet with the Albany (NY) Symphony Orchestra and Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM. He also appeared as guest musician performing with The Philadelphia Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Switzerland).
As an active soloist, he was awarded third prize at the Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition 2021, where he performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and gave the live premiere of Nicolas Bacri Concerto Breve with Opera de Rouen Normandie Orchestra (France). He also won the third prize at the 2021 Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition (USA), first prize at 2018 Mexico’s National Clarinet Competition, second prize at Redlands Bowl Concerto Competition (2018) and the first prize at Zukovsky Clarinet Competition (2016). He has also appeared as concerto soloist with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM, and Orquesta Filarmónica de Sonora in Mexico.
A native of Hermosillo, Mexico, he began his clarinet studies at the age of 10 with Luis Miguel Balseca in his hometown. Hector holds a Music Academy diploma from The Colburn School in Los Angeles, a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School as a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship and a Master of Arts from the Haute – Ecole de musique in Geneva, Switzerland. His primary teachers include Yehuda Gilad, Jon Manasse, Romain Guyot, and Ricardo Morales.
David Ball
bassoon
David Ball studied flute and bassoon in California and Vienna, Austria. Since 1987 he has been principal bassoon of the Teatro de Bellas Artes Orchestra and contrabassoon of the UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he has performed as a soloist. He was a member of the Orquesta Solistas de México with whom he toured Europe. He has also worked in the Sinfonica de Minería and is a member of La Camerata, in addition to doing extensive work in the field of baroque and renaissance music. He is a founding member of Sinfonietta Ventus.
Gerardo Días
horn
He is a Mexican horn player who has been a permanent member of several musical organizations such as the Mexico City Philharmonic, UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra, and is currently the principal horn of the Mexican National Symphony since 2019. He graduated from the University of Veracruz in 2008 and earned a master´s degree from the University of Utah in 2017.
